Megan: I'm an on-again, off-again knitter. I've checked out ravelry before but haven't spent too much time on there. It's probably high time I took up another project, although that sweater experience put me off for awhile. ;-)Meagan Mae: I agree, even with a deep charcoal gray, the textures just &#39funnyop' a lot more than they do on black. Shybiker: I'll bet you would enjoy knitting, and honestly it isn't very hard to pick up the basics. I'd recommend taking a class through your local yarn shop if you want to get a quick start -- it's a fun, communal way to learn a new skill. And since it's historically something done by women (and invented by a woman), it might be an interesting way for you to connect with another aspect of female life. Not that it isn't totally ok for men too! I've had men in all the classes I've ever taken.

Oh, and my computing life began on a Speccy 48K+, then down to a 16K when that went boom. Then up to the lofty (incompatible) heights of a +2A, which is a +3 without the disc drive and with a highly dodgy tape drive. This needed constant realignment of the tape head via an azimuth screw that required more fine and precise calibration than any physics experiment I’ve ever performed.Good training for my future career as a games-playing, layabout physicist with a constant, niggling expectation of an R Tape Loading Error to pop up when I least expect it… 0 OK. Ahhh.

So, a funny vignette:There I am with the husband at Noir City the other night...I'm struggling through the throngs towards the door, and suddenly I almost walk into a tall, lovely woman in a stunning vintage dress with back-button detailing...and I say to myself "wait. I know that dress."LOL. I sort of had to stop gaping, because you know, it's an odd sensation to suddenly view in 3D someone you've only ever seen in still photographs before. (I must say: they don't do you justice.) Without (I hope) sounding creepy, you also have a lovely speaking voice, something the printed word of course also cannot convey. And that dress! total knockout in person. Never think you can't wear that particular 50's style--you most assuredly can. I used to sell vintage, and so I also know that you lucked out bigtime with that purchase. And, how about that flick "Pickup"?!? So funny and awesome. "Naked Alibi", too. Gloria Grahame was without compare. I have been going to those festivals since their inception in LA 12 years ago. I think next year I must really break out the vintage again... ;-)p.s. and one mo' thing--if you haven't checked out Eddie Muller's fiction, I would recommend it. The novel "The Distance" is a fascinating, moving, kind of intense period piece based on his own parents' lives in 30s-40s SF. It has that haunting "old movie" quality...and for someone who loves SF, it's wonderful reading.

Man Audi, you get that hat question ALOT! Maybe you should put a statement of hat purpose near your Etsy shop link. The answer: she leaves them on. Used to be only women could leave them on indoors (and remain socially acceptable), but nowadays anything goes! Woot! Also, I spent practically the entire weekend reading your archive of posts. What can I say, you're a great writer, with intelligent stuff to say, and cool outfits! But I wanted to give you a heads up: some crazy person has been leaving spam comments on your old posts. You can tell they are spam because they are a huge link of Japanese or Chinese characters: super spam. Um. So. Some folks prevent that by moderating the comments as they come in, through a Blogger setting. Just a thought, but maybe it's not a concern of yours. Also, disclaimer: I too was leaving comments on old posts, but I'm neither crazy, nor madam-spam-a-lot.
